To change that I am having a give away. I am giving away 5 precut 4"x6" stabilizer rectangles and a gallon ziplock bag full of fabric scraps. The stabilizer is single sided fusible. This is what I use when making fabric postcards.
To enter leave a comment telling me a little about yourself. Like how long you have been sewing, or crafting? Your hobbies and likes. If you post about this give away on your blog I will enter your name again in the drawing. Please leave a separate comment with the URL to your blog so that I can check it out. I will choose a winner on Tuesday June the 4th. Good Luck. I used my cell phone to take the picture. I couldn't find the batteries for the digital camera. I wanted to host another thread sketching fabric postcard swap but I wanted to have a specific theme. I googled fabric postcards and looked at the images of other peoples fabric postcards for inspiration. I don't remember what the fabric postcard looked like that inspired the 4 elements idea. It took some thinking on my part to try to create something that looked like a picture and just wasn't a bunch of symbols. I sketched the idea out on paper before tackling the actual thread sketching.

I broke down and bought a bolt of the fusible stabilizer I use to make fabric postcards. I get a lot of emails asking what I use and where to buy it. I decided to start selling precut 4 x 6 inch pieces specifically for making fabric postcards in my Etsy shop. I think a lot of people overseas have a hard time finding it or so it seems. If you click the link it will take you to my store and the listing I have up for 5 of the rectangles.
It had pieces sewn on the wrong way. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. It ended up producing four 4 x 6 inch fabric postcards. I added some ribbons so that it didn't look so bland. There are two pictured here. I haven't finished the other two yet.

For this swap I chose Batman. I thought Superman was too obvious. I grew up watching the Batman movies. I like that Batman is mysterious. I searched Google for a template because my drawing skills are like that of a 1st grader. I adjusted the size with Gimp and printed it out. I traced it onto the postcard and used a sharpie and a yellow fabric paint marker. Finished off the edge and popped it into the mail.Fabricmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01743636130533389459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-747513185835641780.post-66719083882312958212011-04-29T00:34:00.000-07:002011-04-29T00:34:18.678-07:00Scrappy Ribbons and Lace Fabric Postcards

I started with a 9 x 12 piece of interfacing. I layered pieces of scrap fabric with flowers on top of a 9 x 12 piece of double sided Steam Light 2 fusible webbing. Once I found the right lay out I ironed them on. I then ironed this to the interfacing. I dug through my ribbons looking for pieces that would pop against the back ground. I sewed the ribbon in place in no particular order. The lace was last to be sewn on. (I think next time I will start with the lace first.) I used my sewing machine to stitch all of the ribbon and lace in place. I cut 2 4 x 6 postcards out of it and 2 fabric ATC's. I have a piece left that I am going to finish the edges of and hang in my sewing area.Fabricmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01743636130533389459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-747513185835641780.post-68114655948967331792011-04-18T19:11:00.000-07:002011-05-18T06:53:18.524-07:00Scrappy Fabric Postcard

Fabricmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01743636130533389459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-747513185835641780.post-18022691561692373422011-04-18T19:07:00.000-07:002011-04-18T19:07:12.653-07:00Shaker Window Fabric Postcard

I received this lovely fabric postcard in a swap on Swap-Bot. You used your machine to draw a picture on the fabric. Very similar to free motion quilting. The picture you have drawn is the main attraction. You can do in free hand, trace something onto your fabric and then go over the lines, or pin your fabric to the back of a picture that you want to replicate and trace the picture. I haven't tried the last two methods. I didn't have time to take pictures of the ones I made. It was my first time actually trying to create a recognizable picture using free motion. It takes a lot of practice. For my first time they turned out ok. Here are pictures of the three I received. Enjoy!
