I didn't realize that it has been so long since I last posted about fabric postcards. Fabric postcards are so easy to make and if you love almost instant gratification this is the project for you.  I have complied a list of websites that you can go to for instructions on how to make fabric postcards.

4 Elements Thread Sketching Fabric Postcard

This isn't the greatest picture. I used my cell phone to take the picture. I couldn't find the batteries for the digital camera. I wanted to host another thread sketching fabric postcard swap but I wanted to have a specific theme. I googled fabric postcards and looked at the images of other peoples fabric postcards for inspiration. I don't remember what the fabric postcard looked like that inspired the 4 elements idea. It took some thinking on my part to try to create something that looked like a picture and just wasn't a bunch of symbols. I sketched the idea out on paper before tackling the actual thread sketching.

Fusible Stabilizer for Fabric Postcards

I broke down and bought a bolt of the fusible stabilizer I use to make fabric postcards. I get a lot of emails asking what I use and where to buy it. I decided to start selling precut 4 x 6 inch pieces specifically for making fabric postcards in my Etsy shop. I think a lot of people overseas have a hard time finding it or so it seems. Broadway Fabric Postcard

I saw the idea for a Broadway fabric postcard one day while searching for new ideas for swaps. Some one had made a Phantom of the Opera fabric postcard. I found quite a few that I want to make. I decided to make one based on the musical, "Hair". The thought of somehow making hair seemed liked it would be fun. This is what I came up with. 

I used fusible webbing to get the peace symbol to stay on and then sewed the yarn on with my machine. 

Re-Purposed Quilt Block Fabric Postcards #2

Here are the other two re-purposed quilt block fabric postcards that I made.

This one came from Judee in California.

This one was sent to me by Beth in Texas.

I also made this one. There was two swaps. I had the same person for both swaps so I made a different fabric postcard. I didn't want to send her one similar to the one I had already sent. 

I really enjoy embellishing fabric postcards with silk flowers. The quilt block was left over from a baby quilt that I made for a lady at church a few years ago.

Super Hero Fabric Postcard

For this swap I chose Batman. I thought Superman was too obvious. I grew up watching the Batman movies. I like that Batman is mysterious. I searched Google for a template because my drawing skills are like that of a 1st grader. I adjusted the size with Gimp and printed it out. I traced it onto the postcard and used a sharpie and a yellow fabric paint marker. Finished off the edge and popped it into the mail.

Shaker Window Fabric Postcard

I received this lovely fabric postcard in a swap on Swap-Bot. The window is clear vinyl. The sea horses are paper cut outs and the shells are real.

Your Royal Highness Fabric Postcard

I received this cutie in the mail last week. It kind of smashed in the scanner. 

Luck of the Irish Fabric Postcards

This is my version of an Irish sea scape view. I goggled Ireland and there were a lot of pictures of cliffs and water with green grass. I used fabric crayons and regular crayons on muslin fabric. My skills at drawing free hand aren't that great. 

I received this from one of my partners. The Celtic knot is a darker green and just beautiful in person. I love it. 

Thread Sketching Fabric Postcards

We had a swap on Swap-Bot this month called Thread Sketching. You used your machine to draw a picture on the fabric. Very similar to free motion quilting. The picture you have drawn is the main attraction. You can do in free hand, trace something onto your fabric and then go over the lines, or pin your fabric to the back of a picture that you want to replicate and trace the picture. I haven't tried the last two methods. I didn't have time to take pictures of the ones I made. It was my first time actually trying to create a recognizable picture using free motion. It takes a lot of practice. For my first time they turned out ok. Here are pictures of the three I received. Enjoy!

Margaret in Maine made this lovely spring scene. The daffodils are blooming in our neighborhood. This one fits right in. We get a large variety of birds in our back yard. I love to try and sneak pictures of them.

Crazy Orange Fabric Postcards

I was in a fabric postcard swap on swap-bot where you had to send two partners a crazy quilt fabric postcard made mostly of orange fabric. Believe it or not I don't have a lot of orange fabric. I was lucky to find enough in my scraps for these.

June Bug Fabric Postcard

I received this dragonfly fabric postcard from my partner. Can you believe this is the first fabric postcard that she has ever made? Bravo....It is wonderful.

I received this fabric in a bag of scraps from a dear friend and fellow swapper on swap-bot. She sent me fabrics for an I spy quilt. I couldn't resist using this for the June Bug fabric postcard swap I hosted last month on swap-bot.

April's Fabric Postcard

I received this in the mail form my swap partner. She is from Canada. I asked her how she created it. She said she watered down some paints. Then painted the fabric. Very cute. I love it.

I got this lovely postcard in the mail today from Marlene. I host a fabric postcard swap on Swap-bot every month. I love the free motion quilting. it reminds me of irises.
