Broadway Fabric Postcard

I saw the idea for a Broadway fabric postcard one day while searching for new ideas for swaps. Some one had made a Phantom of the Opera fabric postcard. I found quite a few that I want to make. I decided to make one based on the musical, "Hair". The thought of somehow making hair seemed liked it would be fun. This is what I came up with. 

I used fusible webbing to get the peace symbol to stay on and then sewed the yarn on with my machine.

I received this crayon fabric postcard from Rachel in Kansas. The theme was favorite color. 

Re-Purposed Quilt Block Fabric Postcards #2

Here are the other two re-purposed quilt block fabric postcards that I made.

These are pictures of two that I received. 

This one came from Judee in California.

This one was sent to me by Beth in Texas.

I also made this one. There was two swaps. I had the same person for both swaps so I made a different fabric postcard. I didn't want to send her one similar to the one I had already sent. 

I really enjoy embellishing fabric postcards with silk flowers. The quilt block was left over from a baby quilt that I made for a lady at church a few years ago.

Re-Purposed Quilt Block Fabric Postcard

I started with a quilt block that I received in a swap. It had pieces sewn on the wrong way. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. It ended up producing four 4 x 6 inch fabric postcards. I added some ribbons so that it didn't look so bland. There are two pictured here. I haven't finished the other two yet.

Super Hero Fabric Postcard

For this swap I chose Batman. I thought Superman was too obvious. I grew up watching the Batman movies. I like that Batman is mysterious. I searched Google for a template because my drawing skills are like that of a 1st grader. I adjusted the size with Gimp and printed it out. I traced it onto the postcard and used a sharpie and a yellow fabric paint marker. Finished off the edge and popped it into the mail.

Scrappy Ribbons and Lace Fabric Postcards

I started with a 9 x 12 piece of interfacing. I layered pieces of scrap fabric with flowers on top of a 9 x 12 piece of double sided Steam Light 2 fusible webbing. Once I found the right lay out I ironed them on. I then ironed this to the interfacing. I dug through my ribbons looking for pieces that would pop against the back ground. I sewed the ribbon in place in no particular order. The lace was last to be sewn on. (I think next time I will start with the lace first.) I used my sewing machine to stitch all of the ribbon and lace in place. I cut 2 4 x 6 postcards out of it and 2 fabric ATC's. I have a piece left that I am going to finish the edges of and hang in my sewing area.

Shaker Window Fabric Postcard

I received this lovely fabric postcard in a swap on Swap-Bot. The window is clear vinyl. The sea horses are paper cut outs and the shells are real.

Your Royal Highness Fabric Postcard

I received this cutie in the mail last week. It kind of smashed in the scanner. 

Luck of the Irish Fabric Postcards

This is my version of an Irish sea scape view. I goggled Ireland and there were a lot of pictures of cliffs and water with green grass. I used fabric crayons and regular crayons on muslin fabric. My skills at drawing free hand aren't that great. 

I received this from one of my partners. The Celtic knot is a darker green and just beautiful in person. I love it. 

Thread Sketching Fabric Postcards

We had a swap on Swap-Bot this month called Thread Sketching. You used your machine to draw a picture on the fabric. Very similar to free motion quilting. The picture you have drawn is the main attraction. You can do in free hand, trace something onto your fabric and then go over the lines, or pin your fabric to the back of a picture that you want to replicate and trace the picture. I haven't tried the last two methods. I didn't have time to take pictures of the ones I made. It was my first time actually trying to create a recognizable picture using free motion. It takes a lot of practice. For my first time they turned out ok. Here are pictures of the three I received. Enjoy!

Margaret in Maine made this lovely spring scene. The daffodils are blooming in our neighborhood. This one fits right in. We get a large variety of birds in our back yard. I love to try and sneak pictures of them.

I created this yo-yo fabric postcard for a swap. The actual theme was buttons and not yo-yo's. Enjoy!

You can see in the first picture some yucky marks right in the middle from this postcard getting put through the postal machine. It is sad to see someones hard work get ruined. Both of these fabric postcards are from a swap on Swap-Bot. I received them from my partners.

Fall Leaves Fabric Postcards

I used felt for the leaves and quilted them with yellow and orange variegated thread.

Fall Pumpkin Fabric Postcard

I used sparkled felt for the pumpkin and then quilted it with variegated thread. The pumpkin is resting on fallen leaves.

Fabric Postcard Give Away

October is my birthday month. I am on the cusp of being a Libra and Scorpio. However I find my temperament leans more towards Scorpio. I will be 35. I find that this year so far has been the hardest for me. My 1st baby turned 15. He will be 16 in January and it scares me to think that he will be driving alone and is almost grown. Where has the time gone?
